2016 WCO Knowledge Academy for Customs and Trade


A short-term, intensive Academy focusing on the

development of technical skills for

Customs and Trade practitioners

This initiative, launched in 2011, aims to bring together the foremost experts in Customs matters to meet the demands of a complex international and cross-border trading system. The primary objective of the WCO Knowledge Academy for Customs and Trade is to provide intense training for Customs and Trade practitioners.  Business professionals, Customs managers and administrators, border agency officials, international organization representatives and academia will benefit from the intensive and interactive discussions on the topics of the greatest relevance to today’s Customs environment.


This year’s Programme includes two important learning tracks focused on the WCO’s principal areas of work, namely Tariff and Trade Affairs (HS, Rules of Origin, and Customs Valuation) and Compliance and Facilitation (Trade Facilitation Agreement, WCO Data Model, and SAFE/AEO).


In terms of infrastructure, there will be more than forty prominent speakers, trainers, and facilitators from different spheres involved in the training programs. Except the experts from WCO the attendees will meet the external specialists from customs administration of Member States, International Organizations, IT sector, the broader business community, governmental and trade organizations, lending institutions, border regulatory agencies and others involved in the international trade arena, who will share their experience and best practices respective the field of their competences.


In addition to classroom training, participants will have a unique opportunity to visit Europe’s flagship Port of Rotterdam.  This tour will be organized with the support of Netherlands Customs and the Rotterdam Port Authorities and will give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at operations in Europe’s biggest port.


The Academy is open to all interested parties.  Registration is free of charge for participants from WCO Member administrations and Intergovernmental organizations.  Students and academics specialized in the Customs domain will receive a 50% discount on the standard registration fees.
